Salem Reads: One Book, One Community is a community-wide reading program encouraging people to come together through reading, discussion and programs based on the theme(s) of a common book. The project is supported by the Salem Public Library Foundation, businesses and individuals who value the role of the Library in the community. This particular book will offer an opportunity for people of diverse ages, backgrounds, viewpoints to come together to discuss compelling common issues faced by the community, and further our goal of the Library being an inviting, inclusive community center and a place to seek knowledge.
The first program, in 2017, featured Spare Parts by Joshua Davis.
The 2018 program presented Outcasts United by Warren St. John.
The 2019 program shared Good Morning, Midnight, by Lily Brooks- Dalton.
The 2020 program centered on Piecing Me Together by Renée Watson.
The 2021 program presents Walking with Peety by Eric O'Grey

How You Can Help Salem Reads Meet Our Goals
The Salem Public Library Foundation Seeks Sponsorship for Salem Reads
Sponsorship at any level will help Salem Public Library to engage a diverse population of library users to come together to talk about important issues facing our community and society . More specifically, your support will purchase the chosen title in print, ebooks, and audio books for the library collection, as well as 450 books given to the Salem Keizer School District Library Media Division to establish classroom literature kits in each district high school. Each year we give 300-400 copies book away at the Library and other locations in February. Sponsorships will also allow us to screen films, as well as provide other programming such as panel discussions, musicians, and book club programs. Please consider joining us in supporting Salem Reads!
Contact Kate Van Ummersen at [email protected] for sponsorship information.
